As if being forty plus and having wrinkles isn’t bad enough, I am also prone to the occasional breakout! I keep a bottle of this Apple Cider Vinegar, Neem and Tea Tree Spot Soother on hand, and apply it at least a few times a day, or whenever I feel like I want to touch the spot!
Its combined ingredients help to soothe the inflammation, the antibacterial properties help heal the spot.
Plus, it is so simple, quick and economical to prepare!
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar with the mother is bioactive and contains acetic acid, polyphenols, pectin, and carotenoids with antibacterial and prebiotic properties. It has enjoyed a reputation as a wound healer for over 5000 years that has persisted until modern days. There is plenty of anecdotal evidence that Apple Cider Vinegar can help in the treatment of acne. Limited scientific evidence indicates Apple Cider vinegar can also reduce scarring, but more research is required.
Neem Oil
Neem oil is extracted from the Indian Lilac tree. Despite its sweet name, the oil has a strong, pungent smell. But, it also contains many ingredients that are extremely beneficial to the skin including fatty acids (EFA), limonoids, vitamin E, triglycerides and antioxidants.
An in vitro study in 2013 determined that neem oil is a promising prolonged treatment for acne.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea Tree oil helps to hide the smell of the apple cider vinegar and the neem oil, plus it boasts over 100 components that can help treat acne. A comparative study published in the Medical Journal of Australia found that tea tree oil, behaved similarly to benzoyl peroxide helping minimize acne lesions! And although treatment with tea tree oil was slower to act, it caused fewer side effects than the benzoyl peroxide.
A small amount of vegetable glycerine helps to counteract the drying effect of the Apple Cider Vinegar and keep the skin moisturised.
