When I established my edible garden in 2012, I made a grave error, one that I have regretted to this day…
I thought I could rely on my memory! Big mistake. HUGE!
I was certain I would remember the varieties of everything I planted. And I did, in the beginning. But as my garden grew from a modest get-together of plants to a 200-plus variety soiree, I forgot important names and details.
I bought multiples of seeds I already had. I forgot the names of trees that required compatible pollinators, condemning them to lives of sterility and me to no fruit! I relied on in-bed plant markers until one of my little “helpers” rearranged them all around and I almost cried in frustration!

Now that I am revitalizing my edible garden in 2019, I am determined to do it smarter this time around. I will take notes! Create a record of my Garden Goals for the year, keep track of what I sow and harvest, and map my garden so I remember what-goes-where.
Over time, with each passing month, I will create an indispensable resource that details the best varieties, yields, flavours that my own garden produced!
